About the event
This course introduces the various exceptionalities(disabilities) and related topics in the field of special education including definitions, prevalence, assessment, and intervention. It includes discussion of strategies for facilitating students' independence, learning, social connections, and self-advocacy skills. The course will explore curriculum modifications, accommodations, and problem- solving strategies. This course will introduce the Dignity model in working with students, families, and schools. This course investigates the philosophical, historical, and social/cultural character of education in the United States. Discussions will also include the role of education, and system philosophy and trends which have shaped contemporary education and the role of the educator.
